Redshirt Senior Safety with Elite Tackling and Pass-Breakup Skills for James Madison
Jalen Phelps, a 5-10, 176-lb Redshirt Senior Safety for the James Madison Dukes, stands out with 88 career tackles (51 solo) and eight pass breakups, including a single-season peak of 29 tackles. His differentiators include relentless intensity, a fearless tackling style that compensates for his smaller frame, and sharp ball-hawking instincts that make him a reliable coverage threat. With 42 career games and 9 starts, he brings veteran experience and a team-first personality that elevates locker room energy. No major injury history is reported, and his consistency over four seasons signals durability. For teams seeking a high-intensity, intelligent safety who can both stop runs and break up passes, Phelps is an ideal fit—especially in schemes valuing versatility and grit over pure size.
