Alek Akuen brings veteran size and interior toughness to SIUE
Alek Akuen is a 6'3" center who gives SIUE a physical inside presence, and her value has long been tied to rebounding, shot-blocking, and efficient finish-at-the-rim play rather than volume scoring. In the 2019-20 season, she appeared in 23 games, averaged 2.0 points per game, and ranked second on the team with 10 blocks despite playing just 7.9 minutes per game—exactly the kind of low-usage, high-impact big that can tilt a lineup with hustle and rim protection. She’s the type of fit coaches love when they want defense, toughness, and extra possessions more than flash.
