Kendrick Mathis brings veteran versatility and special-teams grit to San Diego State
Kendrick Mathis is a long-time Aztecs role player whose value comes more from versatility and toughness than box-score flash; San Diego State listed him as a speedy receiver, but his background also includes defensive back, kick-return, and special-teams work, showing a coach-friendly, do-everything mentality[2][10]. In his earlier Aztecs years, he was praised as a fast athlete with game-ready grit, and his recruiting profile shows he arrived as a defensive back before moving around the formation, which is the kind of flexibility teams love when they need dependable depth and instant utility[2][3][14].
