VMI’s Veteran Edge Setter: Andy Viola Brings Technique, Leadership and Reliability
Andy Viola is a seasoned VMI defensive end who enters the year as a captain and projected starter, giving the Keydets an experienced anchor on the defensive front. VMI describes him as a dependable defender with strong technique, hard work, and a positive influence on younger players, and notes that he developed by switching from offense to defense earlier in his career[2]. For a team looking for a mature, assignment-sound edge player who can stabilize a rotation and lead by example, Viola’s value is in consistency, experience, and locker-room presence rather than flashy stat production[2].
