Chad Gilchrist brings veteran, playmaking linebacker juice to South Carolina State
A senior linebacker from Johnston, South Carolina, Chad Gilchrist is a proven HBCU impact defender whose résumé includes 81 career tackles, 9 interceptions, and 20 pass breakups heading into the 2021 season, plus preseason All-MEAC recognition and a Black College Football Hall of Fame watch-list nod. His calling card is versatility: he can work downhill against the run, close space in coverage, and make splash plays in the secondary, which is rare for a linebacker. That kind of ball production and experience makes him a strong fit for a defense that wants instincts, range, and turnovers.
