Former Iowa RB recruit who carved out a special-teams/DB role before stepping away
Deavin Hilson’s Iowa story is less about box-score fireworks and more about versatility and grit: he arrived as a running back recruit, shifted to defensive back, earned team awards, and appeared in all 14 games in 2023 before playing the first five games of 2024 without recorded stats. In October 2024, Iowa said he departed the program to focus on academics, so he’s not a current fit as an active Hawkeye roster piece; the appealing traits were toughness, willingness to adapt, and dependable team-first energy rather than elite statistical production.
