Thik Bol’s calling card at Southern Illinois was elite rim protection: in the 2016–17 season, he blocked 76 shots, was named to the MVC All-Defensive Team, and ranked fourth nationally in blocks per game. He also gave SIU a rugged interior presence with 10.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in his best junior-college season before arriving in Carbondale, and his game leaned on hustle, timing, and physicality more than finesse.
