Former All-ACC Guard Who Arrived as a Top-15 Preseason ACC Talent
Will Merritt’s clearest differentiator was his proven ACC starting pedigree: he was coming off a 2000 season in which Clemson went 9-3 and he earned second-team All-ACC honors at guard, while preseason national previews ranked him as the No. 7 guard by Lindy’s and No. 14 by The Sporting News. That combination suggests a steady, battle-tested interior lineman rather than a flashy stat-chaser—useful if you want a reliable blocker who has already been vetted against top-level competition.[1]
