Ryan Markwardt’s late-season surge gave Texas State a real left-handed arm
In the 2026 season, Texas State senior left-hander Ryan Markwardt emerged as a valuable starter after a bumpy start, finishing with a 3.34 ERA, 47 strikeouts and 18 walks in 32.1 innings, and he closed strong with six scoreless innings and a season-high nine Ks in a 5-0 win over Marshall.[1][2] Over his last four starts, he allowed just three earned runs in 16.2 innings with 29 strikeouts, which screams swing-and-miss stuff and a pitcher trending up when it mattered most.[4] He looks like the kind of veteran, competitive LHP who can stabilize a staff and attack high-pressure innings.[2][4]
