Atkinson is a rising SMU defensive end with real juice: he entered the program as a three-star JUCO prospect and, at Trinity Valley CC in the 2025 season, posted 52 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks in eight games. His calling card is disruptive edge play — length, power, and a proven knack for getting into the backfield — which makes him appealing for teams that want pressure without sacrificing run defense. He also adds a bit of “grown-man” physicality for an ACC front, though current public roster listings and depth charts suggest he’s still settling into his role at SMU.
