High-upside lefty with a legit multi-sport edge
Avon Barney is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound freshman left-handed pitcher for South Dakota State, and the early read is a power-armed work-in-progress whose best trait is competitiveness. In 2024, he was Wyoming Legion Baseball AA Pitcher of the Year with 10 wins, and his high-school bio points to a fastball/cutter/changeup mix that gives him real starter-relief flexibility. The caution flag: his 2026 early college numbers were bumpy, with control issues showing up, so he looks more like a development pick than an instant plug-and-play arm.
