veteran Texas guard brings size, shooting touch, and roster stability
Avery Benson, a 6-foot-4 senior guard for Texas in the 2026 season, is a low-drama, high-IQ depth piece whose value comes from experience, spacing, and knowing his role. He arrived after four seasons at Texas Tech, where he appeared in 71 career games, scored 91 points, grabbed 69 rebounds, and shot 41.7% from three, which hints at a dependable catch-and-shoot profile rather than a volume scorer. He also helped Texas Tech win 94 games across his four years, so he brings winning-program habits, maturity, and defensive versatility to a Texas backcourt that can always use a steady hand.
