veteran Tar Heel lefty giving UNC a steady, low-drama bullpen bridge
In the 2026 season, North Carolina’s Tom Chmielewski has been a useful matchup lefty with a 5.12 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 19.1 innings, but his real value shows up in the tougher spots: he logged his longest UNC outing against Charlotte and even collected a save against UNCW. At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, the Princeton transfer gives the Tar Heels an experienced, older arm who can handle extended relief work, throw strikes, and neutralize pockets of the lineup when the game starts getting spicy.
