Veteran UAB edge-linebacker who brings havoc, IQ, and leadership
Fairbanks is a seasoned, do-everything defender for UAB who has shown real impact as a pass-rush edge linebacker, finishing the 2023 season with 23 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. He was also the defensive MVP of the 2022 Bahamas Bowl after a disruptive, high-energy performance, which tracks with a profile built on toughness, motor, and playmaking instincts rather than flash. Add in his academic discipline and leadership vibe, and he looks like the kind of steady, intelligent front-seven piece coaches trust to set the tone.
