Melvin Spears brings active, assignment-sound edge play to Iowa
Melvin Spears is listed by Iowa as a defensive end, and the available stat line shows early-career production centered more on tackles than splash plays, with 4 solo tackles and no sacks reported in ESPN’s college profile. That profile suggests a player whose value is in steady, physical edge work rather than headline-grabbing pass-rush numbers right now. If you need a DE who can hold the edge, play with discipline, and develop into more disruption, Spears is worth watching; if you want an instant sack artist, he is not there yet.
