Proven Cal edge defender with backfield disruption upside
Alex Funches’ calling card was disruption: in his 2017-18 Cal career, he played in all 25 games with 20 starts, posting 74 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 9.0 sacks, with a senior-year high of 5.0 sacks in 2018.[1] He stood out as a relentless pass-rush linebacker who could win behind the line of scrimmage, and his production against quality opponents showed real playmaking juice rather than empty volume.[1] If you want a physical front-seven defender who can stress protections and create negative plays, he fits the profile.
