Gabe Mathison brings speed, contact, and sneaky clutch pop to Akron’s outfield
In the 2026 season, Akron freshman OF Gabe Mathison has flashed a useful all-around profile: .244 with a .734 OPS, 20 hits, 18 RBI, 15 walks, 11 steals, and a standout 9-for-13 success rate on the bases. He’s shown he can impact games in different ways, including a 4-RBI performance against UMass and multiple-hit outings against Ohio State and other opponents. The fit is intriguing because he adds speed, plate discipline, and versatility; the question is how quickly his bat grows into more consistent impact as he gets adjusted to college pitching.
