Branden Layne brings compact, physical depth to HCU’s defensive front
Layne is a 6-0, 225-pound junior defensive lineman for Houston Christian, and his profile suggests a sturdy, under-the-radar interior presence rather than a flashy stat-sheet star. In the 2022 season, he recorded 8 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, showing he can contribute in run support and create backfield disruption in limited work. He has the kind of frame and toughness that can fit a rotational DL role, but the available public stats don’t show high-end production yet, so he looks more like a developmental, blue-collar fit than an instant-impact centerpiece.
