Owen Verna brings size, scoring touch, and St. Joe’s fit as a freshman guard
Verna is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard from Mater Dei who chose Saint Joseph’s because the three-guard offense fit his game and because of the family connection to Hawk Hill[1][12]. In 2025-26, he was dealing with a hip injury and had not yet made his college debut, so the “current performance” read is more projection than production right now[6][7]. The appeal is upside: he was labeled a top-40 recruit in California and projects as a versatile combo guard who can score and slide into St. Joe’s guard-heavy style once healthy[10][12][13].
