Illinois’ walk-on guard whose hustle and basketball IQ earned her a real role
Tara O’Malley’s Illinois story is the kind coaches love: a former team manager turned walk-on guard who brought urgency, reliability, and a deep feel for the game rather than raw star-chasing flash. In her Illinois tenure, she was noted for limited but meaningful minutes, including five appearances in 2019-20, and she previously played at Iowa Western, where she averaged 8.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in the 2020-21 bio materials. If you want toughness, team-first energy, and someone who understands the grind, she’s your kind of guard.
