Illinois TE Christian Abney brings rare size and sneaky versatility to the Illini offense
Abney is a 6'6", 255-pound tight end who gives Illinois a big target with upside as both a receiver and blocker, and his 2025 season showed at least a small role in the passing game with 1 catch for 12 yards in 7 games through Oct. 29, 2025. He has a track record of production at Ball State—8 career catches for 66 yards and 1 touchdown across 2023-24—and was described by roster notes as a 2025 Illinois transfer who played in 12 of 13 games with 4 starts, while his former-school bio also notes Academic All-America recognition, which points to reliability and maturity.
