Championship-tested DB with size-to-speed grit
Le'Javier Payne is a redshirt freshman defensive back for Eastern Illinois who brings championship pedigree from Chicago Mt. Carmel, where he was part of multiple state-title runs and made impact plays in the 2024 7A championship game, including an interception and a tackle for loss. He’s a compact, physical defender at 5-8 who plays with edge and proven winner DNA, which makes him intriguing for a staff that values toughness, preparation, and special-teams juice. The big question is opportunity—he redshirted in 2025 and enters 2026 still looking to turn that high-school momentum into college production.
