Steve Perretta’s Marshall legacy is built on toughness, not flash
Perretta was a second-team All-MAC offensive lineman for Marshall in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, and his defining trait was rugged, selfless line play—he was one of the guys physically carrying Byron Leftwich through an infamous broken-leg game, which tells you everything about his competitiveness and trust level in the room. He wasn’t a stat-sheet star; he was a tone-setter, the kind of interior/line presence coaches love because he helps drive the culture, absorbs contact, and keeps the offense on schedule.
