NIU’s James Johnson: a physical back with real 2025 production
In the 2025 season, Northern Illinois RB James Johnson emerged as a dependable, physical runner in the Huskies’ backfield, and NIU’s offense is leaning on that steady, downhill presence again in 2026. He profiles as a fit-for-purpose back: tough between the tackles, willing in pass protection, and valuable because he can keep an offense on schedule rather than chase highlight plays. The catch? He’s more “chain-mover” than electric game-breaker, so the best fit is a team that wants reliability, contact balance, and a back who earns every yard the old-fashioned way.
