veteran Aztec DB with leadership DNA
Dey Juan Hemmings is a former San Diego State defensive back whose value was bigger than the box score: he was described by SDSU as petitioning for a medical redshirt in 2010, and later self-described as a vocal, emotional team leader and an Iron Man award winner. That combination points to a player who brings toughness, accountability, and locker-room credibility—the kind of fit coaches love when they need a steadying presence, even if the headline stats don’t scream superstar.
