Veteran linebacker Derek Slaughter brings proven tackling production and steady defensive instincts to Samford
Derek Slaughter enters Samford with a resume built on experience, run support, and ball disruption: at UAB, he logged 75 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery across three seasons, plus 26 tackles and 3.0 TFL in 2013 and 28 tackles in 2012. The big draw is his proven nose for the ball and ability to contribute in multiple phases, while the main question is whether his impact translates cleanly against newer FCS competition. If your team wants a seasoned, physical linebacker who plays with old-school urgency, he fits the bill.
