Versatile, former safety-turned-LB who flashed starter-level instincts at NIU
In the 2023 season, DaRon Gilbert started all 13 games for Northern Illinois after making a full-time move from safety to linebacker, a switch that shows real adaptability and football IQ. He brought an impressive multi-year résumé from Lafayette, where he was a two-time All-Patriot League selection, and finished college with 188 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, one forced fumble, and a half-sack. For a team, he fits as a smart, physical second-level defender with coverage experience and a proven ability to transition roles quickly.
