Dave Mordis brought power, versatility, and old-school fullback grit to Illinois State
In the 2006 season, Dave Mordis was a second-team All-Gateway selection who started all 13 games at fullback, caught 20 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown, and was a key lead blocker for an Illinois State offense that averaged 170 rushing yards per game and helped Pierre Rembert top 1,700 rushing yards. He’s the kind of throwback blocker who does the dirty work, adds sneaky receiving value, and clearly earned trust in a high-leverage role. The catch: he suffered a torn ACL in fall camp before the 2007 season, so durability is part of the evaluation too.
