Carmela Fontes brings size, skill, and a point-guard brain to Cal Poly's frontcourt
Fontes is a 6-foot-2 stretch forward who was praised by Cal Poly coach Shanele Stires for her passing, high-low ability, rebounding, and floor-spacing touch—basically, a frontcourt player who can think and create like a guard.[1] In the 2024-25 season, she did not play for Cal Poly, so her on-court college sample is still limited, but her prep résumé includes helping Woodside Priory win a CCS Division 5 title while averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds per game in 2022.[1] If you want a versatile, international-style forward with upside, she’s the kind of low-drama, high-IQ fit who can quietly make a roster better.
