Experienced, playmaking Mercer linebacker with a nose for the ball
Corey Lockett brings proven linebacker production and disruption to Mercer, highlighted by a 2013 season with 53 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and five pass breakups, plus an interception and forced fumble in key moments. At 5-foot-9 and 212 pounds, he profiles as an instinctive, high-motor defender who creates plays behind the line and in coverage rather than just piling up tackles. His resume also shows resilience, returning from a preseason injury in 2014 to start the final 10 games, which suggests toughness and reliability. He looks like a fit for a defense that values active, versatile second-level playmakers.[1]
