Alabama’s freshman catcher Zack Johnson brings a big bat, big-arm profile, and real run-production pedigree
In the 2024 high-school season, Zack Johnson was a monster at Bob Jones: .384 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 5 homers, and 65 RBI, good for fourth nationally in RBI and top-catcher honors in Alabama. Alabama lists him as a 6-foot-1, 205-pound freshman catcher, and scouting coverage highlights a physical, gritty player with strong defensive tools, game control, and a reputation for managing pitchers and shutting down the running game. The big question is health and readiness after reports of a 2026 spring injury, but if he’s right, he looks like a high-upside fit for a team that values toughness and impact behind the plate.
