old-school Clemson linebacker who won with run support and grit
In the 2013 season, Spencer Shuey was a dependable, downhill linebacker for Clemson, finishing second on the team in tackles and ranking second nationally with four fumble recoveries; he also earned defensive MVP honors at the team banquet. His calling card was run defense, hustle, and fast recognition in the box, while his biggest limitation was coverage and pass-rush versatility. That makes him the kind of player coaches trust on early downs and in physical matchups, though less so on obvious passing downs.
