veteran UTRGV infielder bringing clutch contact and polished infield play
In the 2026 season, Diego Villescas arrived as a graduate-transfer spark for UTRGV, and his profile screams dependable table-setter: he’s already delivered extra-base pop, stolen bases, and run-producing hits in key spots, including a season-high two doubles and an RBI in UTRGV’s sweep of Nicholls. He’s the kind of experienced infielder who plays with urgency, fits a winning clubhouse, and adds versatility and baseball IQ. The upside is less about raw tools and more about steady, competitive at-bats, smart pressure moments, and a veteran presence that can help stabilize a lineup.
