Mercedes Riggs was Duke’s steady, high-IQ guard who brought toughness and leadership
Mercedes Riggs was a 5-7 guard for Duke in the 2015-16 season who was valued less for flashy scoring and more for poise, defense, and floor leadership; Duke described her as an “emotional floor leader” and one of the team’s captains in her senior year. In the 2014-15 season, she appeared in 32 games, averaged 1.6 points, and handed out 29 assists, showing the kind of dependable, mistake-averse backcourt play coaches trust. If your team needs a scrappy connector who takes charges, competes hard, and keeps an offense organized, she fits that mold nicely.
