Barret Benson brings veteran size, efficient scoring, and real rim protection
Barret Benson is a high-motor center whose best calling cards are efficient interior scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking, highlighted by his 2019-20 Southern Illinois season of 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, and 51.0% shooting in 27.0 minutes per game. He also started every game that year and earned recognition for anchoring an SIU defense that ranked 14th nationally in scoring defense, which suggests he adds more than box-score production. For a team, he fits best as a dependable veteran big who can finish around the rim, protect it on the other end, and bring steady leadership.
