a splash-play linebacker with a proven nose for the football
Matt Murphy is a Drake linebacker whose calling card is playmaking: the earliest Drake game notes available show him as a freshman who recorded an interception in the 2007 season, a sign of good instincts and ball skills from the second level. Beyond raw stats, that kind of disruptive, turnover-creating profile is what coaches love in an LB — he looks like the type who can diagnose quickly, trigger downhill, and make offenses pay for mistakes. If you want a defender with instinct and urgency, Murphy fits the mold.
