Matt Davis brings dual-threat flash, but SMU’s current QB spotlight belongs elsewhere
Matt Davis is a former SMU quarterback best remembered for his 2016 burst as a runner-passer, including 191 rushing yards in one game for SMU, but current roster/coverage results do not show him as SMU’s active 2026 quarterback. The big takeaway: if you’re evaluating him as a fit, the appeal was always his toughness and designed-run juice more than polished pocket wizardry—but for present-day SMU QB needs, he does not appear to be the live answer.
