Champ Jenkins brings JUCO-tested tackle production and turnover juice to FIU’s linebacker room
Champ Jenkins is an intriguing FIU linebacker because he already has proven production from junior college: in the 2022-23 season at New Mexico Military, he posted 70 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception and a half sack. FIU listed him on its 2024 roster, but he did not see game action that season, so the appeal is more about upside than current college stat volume. He looks like a high-effort, disruptive defender with real ball-hawking and turnover skills—good fit for a team needing instinctive, physical depth rather than an instant star.
