Clayton McConnell is the veteran anchor Richmond’s offense has leaned on
Clayton McConnell has been a proven, high-floor interior lineman for Richmond, earning Preseason All-CAA recognition in 2021 and First Team All-CAA honors that fall after anchoring the Spiders at center. In Richmond’s 2021 spring season, he started all four games and helped the offense finish fifth in the conference in rushing at 153.2 yards per game, while giving the quarterback cleaner pockets. The selling point is reliability: he’s experienced, technically sound, and tough enough to command the middle. If you need a steady tone-setter, he’s your guy; if you want splashy stats, that’s not the OL business model.
