Iowa’s veteran OL anchor with proven tackle versatility
Ben Gates has been a dependable Iowa Hawkeyes offensive lineman, with older Iowa media-guide notes showing him as a candidate at left tackle after a move from tight end and later listing him as a first-team left tackle; that kind of position-switch versatility is a real differentiator. He’s the type of lineman coaches love: big, adaptable, and assignment-sound rather than flashy, which fits Iowa’s trench-heavy identity. For a team prioritizing technique, toughness, and lineup flexibility, Gates looks like a good fit.
