John Mateer looks like Oklahoma’s calm, dual-threat engine in 2026
In the 2026 season, John Mateer has opened the year with efficient play for Oklahoma: 11-for-17 passing for 225 yards, 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and 7 rushing yards in the Sooners’ 51-0 win over UTEP. His calling cards are poise, continuity, and dual-threat functionality—he’s back for a second year in Norman after choosing to return, giving Oklahoma stability in Ben Arbuckle’s system and a quarterback who’s described as calmer and more confident entering Year 2. If you want a QB who can run an offense cleanly, extend drives, and bring veteran command, Mateer fits the bill.
