Darron Wheeler brings veteran DB experience to Western Illinois
In the 2019 season, Darron Wheeler was listed as a senior defensive back for Western Illinois, and his long roster history shows he’s been around the program in multiple roles, including defensive back and wide receiver earlier in his career. His biggest value is veteran familiarity: he’s a seasoned, position-flexible depth piece who has seen the grind of Division I football and brings a team-first profile rather than flashy headline stats. He also appears to have dealt with surgery-related availability issues in 2019, so durability is part of the evaluation.
