Redbirds linebacker with a crowded, high-end room around him
Hassan Abdul-Malik is listed on Illinois State’s football history, but the current 2026 Redbirds linebacker spotlight is dominated by established names like Tye Niekamp and Mason Kaplan, so Abdul-Malik appears to be more of a depth or developmental piece right now than a headline defender.[3][4][5] The fit question is simple: if you want a linebacker room built on experience, production, and proven playmaking, Illinois State already has that covered; Abdul-Malik would need to carve out his value through special teams, physicality, and steady growth rather than raw stat volume.[3][4][5]
