USC’s diminutive walk-on receiver with Trojan grit
Cody Skene is a former USC walk-on wide receiver whose appeal has always been the underdog résumé: in 2013 he was listed as a reserve walk-on senior at USC, after joining the program in spring 2011 and fighting for every snap. USC’s roster listed him at 5-7, 160, and coverage from the time described him as a practice-squad grinder who valued the chance to compete in a major program. He’s the kind of player coaches like for toughness, buy-in, and depth—not headline stats.
