Malik Staples brings veteran versatility and special-teams grit to WKU
Malik Staples is a long-tenured, multi-role defender for Western Kentucky who has survived the position shuffle from running back to linebacker and back into a hybrid depth piece, which usually says a lot about a player’s football IQ and willingness to do the dirty work. In the 2019 season, he appeared in all 13 games and made 19 tackles, and in the 2020 season he again contributed on both defense and special teams, finishing with five tackles in bowl play and four more on coverage units. He looks like a culture-fit player: physical, experienced, and reliable in the less glamorous jobs that coaches trust.
