Brayden Mazzacano brings two-way upside and late-inning bite for Illinois
Mazzacano is a lean, athletic 6-foot-2 lefty who gives Illinois real two-way flexibility, with coaches and local coverage praising him as a legitimate pitcher-hitter combo and noting his bright future on the mound. In 2026, he flashed value in relief with scoreless outings, including a 1.2-inning, one-strikeout effort in Big Ten play, while also contributing as a speedy outfielder who can manufacture runs. He’s the kind of roster fit that adds depth, competitiveness, and upside without needing the ball to be perfect every day.
