Veteran NIU edge with a blue-collar motor and proven production
Austin Smaha brings the kind of no-nonsense, high-effort profile that coaches love: an experienced Northern Illinois defensive end who fits the “do your job, wreck the play” mold. The most reliable public stat line on him shows 27 solo tackles in his NIU career profile, and earlier bio notes credit him as a former multi-year starter who made plays behind the line and got after the quarterback. What stands out most is his toughness, local roots, and assignment discipline—good traits for a scheme that values consistent edge setting and dependable intensity.
