Austin Houser brings developmental depth and DB versatility to Mercer
Austin Houser is a redshirt freshman defensive back for Mercer in the 2026 season, listed at 5-foot-10 and 159 pounds out of Pace, Florida[1]. With his lean frame and young classification, he profiles more as a developmental piece than a finished product, but that can be a good thing: Mercer is getting an agile, coachable DB with room to add strength, sharpen technique, and grow into special teams or rotational value[1]. He’s a name to watch for upside, not headline stats—exactly the kind of under-the-radar athlete a program can mold.
