Promising Drake Freshman Forward with Rebounding Prowess (2002-03)
Quantel Murphy, a 6-5 freshman forward for the Drake Bulldogs in 2002-03, averaged 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game across 23 outings while shooting 60.6% from the field; a standout at Denver's George Washington HS with All-Denver Prep League honors (16.3 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.2 SPG as a senior on a 23-3 team), he grabbed 11 boards in key high school wins and debuted at home vs. Denver Pioneers. His raw athleticism, rebounding intensity, and inside force make him a developmental gem for teams seeking versatile bigs with upside—perfect mid-major fit if he bulks up.
