Ta’Shawn James is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound defensive back who brings real versatility and pop to the Iowa State secondary, and in the 2025 season he logged 33 tackles and 5 passes defended while showing enough toughness that Iowa State coaches praised that he had been “playing great football.” He also drew notice for lining up all over the defense, including in the box and at free safety, which makes him a useful fit for a defense that values flexibility, downhill run support, and DBs who can do a little bit of everything.
